Caring for people with a dementia care need
We recognise that there is an increasing need to provide accommodation for service users with a dementia care need. Our nurses and care staff have undergone training in how to care for users with dementia. They have also received a programme of training in challenging behaviour, dementia care and person centred care that will be beneficial to all users.

In addition to dementia care awareness, our aim is for all Carers to be trained to NVQ 2 level in dementia care.
Staffing levels are adjusted accordingly to meet the needs of the service users.
Further risk assessments of the home are carried out to meet the needs of each individual diagnosed with dementia. We believe that having dementia doesn’t stop you from leading a full and active life!
Our aims are based on the following values:
- Creating a home-like feel
- Providing specialised and person centred care
- Promoting self-esteem
- Encouraging independence
- Supporting individuality
- Enabling freedom of choice and involvement in decision making
- Providing a comfortable and safe environment where someone can live with their dementia and not just exist. No two people are the same!
Recognising, supporting and celebrating each person’s individuality are fundamental to our philosophy. Each member of the care team recognises supports and celebrates each person’s individuality. They all receive training through our dementia care programmes.
Regular meetings and social gatherings are organised for families and friends and form an essential support network. We also held a Friday afternoon relatives self-help group organised with the activities workers and care manager.
Arrangements for social activities, hobbies & leisure interests
We understand the importance of structured activities for people with dementia who may find it difficult to fully engage in their own hobbies and interests. Activities can provide a sense of purpose and belonging that many people with early stages of dementia may find hard to experience. All residents are given the opportunity to participate in reminiscence quizzes, current affairs groups, memory clinics, board games, music and movement. Our Home is able to provide a variety of ways that service users can engage in the enjoyment of social activities, hobbies and leisure interests. We have a safe enclosed garden for the users to use individual wishes regarding involvement in activities are always respected and we recognise the balance between gentle encouragement and respecting wishes not to participate.
We have TWO ACTIVITY WORKERS and offer activities Monday to Friday to help and support the users to have an active, interesting and stimulating day. The types of activities we offer are:
- Baking
- Painting
- Arts and crafts
- Crosswords
- Quizzes
- Personal vanity, nail care and hand massage sessions
